Internal Mono
Original Mixed Media Canvas Painting
45 × 60 cm
Sometimes the loudest things are the ones we never say.
Internal Mono is an original mixed media painting exploring the chaos of the human mind, emotional conflict and the uncomfortable relationship between what we feel and what we allow others to see.
At the centre stands Internal, his familiar oversized grin stretched across a black silhouette. But something has changed. His eyes are crossed out, his expression frozen somewhere between happiness and emotional exhaustion.
Surrounded by a storm of graffiti-inspired markings, scratched symbols, scattered paint and fractured lines, Internal exists within a world that feels restless and unpredictable.
Deep blues and blacks create an atmosphere of isolation, while flashes of pink and white interrupt the darkness. Each mark contributes to the sense of internal noise, the thoughts that overlap, contradict and refuse to settle.
The smile remains, even when everything surrounding it suggests otherwise.
For me, Internal has never simply been a character. He represents the parts of ourselves that are difficult to explain. The emotions we conceal, the thoughts we struggle to communicate and the masks we sometimes wear just to make it through another day.
Created through layers of paint, expressive mark-making and experimentation, Internal Mono embraces disorder rather than attempting to control it.
It is a reminder that a smile is not always an indication of happiness, and that the things happening beneath the surface are often far more complicated than they appear.
